Passages in Caregiving

Fri, 07/16/2010 - 2:52pm

Our friend and author, Bonnie Kogos (of Manitoulin Adventures fame), sent along an interesting article from USA Today on Gail Sheehy and her new book, "Passages in Caregiving." It's a journey through the building of a personal safety net - for herself and a loved one - including some lessons to learn, some traps to avoid, and "turning chaos into confidence."

Sheehy learned what it meant to be a caregiver when her husband, (Clay Felker, founder of New York magazine) was diagnosed with cancer - a journey that lasted 17 years until his death.  Sheehy's book takes us from "shock and mobilization" to "the long goodbye" - focusing upon her eight phases of caregiving, and while we're dealing with the loss of life here, her ideas reach out to any of us who are in any sort of caregiver role.
