To Believe - or Not

Tue, 03/16/2010 - 11:20am

You read a fact-finding article and it includes wording such as, "according to the UK-based Institute of Food Research, which carried out the research on behalf of the frozen food manufacturer Birds Eye." Does this have an effect on what your read or what you believe? If researchers are paid by a private company does it make their findings more or less believable? When the research clearly helps the company doing the research, is it valid? When  these questions surface, self-supporting research by the tobacco companies years ago comes to mind.

Maybe some companies are looking out for us, and maybe not. It's yours to decide. With spring vegetable planting about to begin, some new research tells us that it's better to eat frozen rather than fresh - unless you can cut down the time from garden to table.

Try an interesting nutrition study posted by Rosemary Black in the NY Daily News. See what you think. We'd love your comments - on research, on freezing versus fresh, and your stories on gardening and the use of your community and your personal safety net.
