As part of The Kenney's 2010 Wellness Forums (underwritten by The Kenney Foundation), we will present a workshop to assist individuals and families as they look at current and future challenges and changes, understand and use a Personal Safety Net, and the safety net role a Continuing Care Retirement Community can provide.

Our set of goals is to help participants understand:     

• the concepts and values that under gird Personal Safety Nets® (PSNs),
• the application of PSNs to their & their families' lives, including:
• why, when, and how they can be created,
• the steps to take to create a sound net for themselves and their families,
• making it all work for you personally.

Personal Safety Nets® believes that by properly supporting aging families and helping them get ready for life's future, we enhance their social life, decrease their stress, and allow them to focus upon what they have today, rather than worrying about what may be missing. By increasing the awareness and appreciation of various resources we decrease isolation and fear, for them, and for their families. Stressors that impact on families are decreased as social connections increase, planning expands, stability of the future is settled, appreciation and enjoyment increase and effective interpersonal interactions are made easier.

Our workshop will include fact-finding discussions, learning through examples, and a few group interactive exercises. The typical agenda includes:
• Looking at the Big Picture
• What's included in a Safety Net?
• Sketching out existing Personal Safety Nets
• Sharing stories of what has been effective and ineffective
• Exploring why we want, or fear, helping someone else or receiving assistance
• Planning and Asking
• Making it Personal
